Wisdom

“Wisdom” is the third single and fourth track from the EP Listen

Story

This song is actually about someone. Some of the songs I have written sound like they are about someone specific but they really are not (at least that is what I tell myself). This one is. The title kind of gives it away. I woke up one morning, turned on a tape recorder and the music, and a lot of the lyrics just came out. By the time I got to the “don’t you ever speak my name” bit I was sobbing. It actually kind of felt good so I just kept repeating it, that’s how the ending came about. I couldn’t sing this song for the longest time without crying. If you were to strip away all of the effects on my voice on the recording you would be able to hear that was still the case when I recorded the vocals for this track. This is another song that has layers upon layer of guitars.

I sing the lyrics incorrectly on the recording; the lyrics below are the correct lyrics.

Lyrics

Memories of tomorrow

From pictures of today

It doesn’t matter what you’re feeling

It only matters what you say

Picking up your pieces of my

Perfectly shattered veneer

Everything I ever wanted

Always seems to disappear

You never knew it

I would never let them stay

If there was a chance I could wake up

In your arms yesterday

If I could please

Please

Please

Memories filled with sorrow

Pieces that don’t have a say

Placed upon the board of

A game they don’t

Know how to play

It didn’t take a lot for

You to beat me

But one thing you didn’t learn

Knowing when to

Leave is easy

But what about when to return

I think you knew it

I could have showed you how to stay

But you were so afraid of

What you were yesterday

Now I see

I'm free

Free

If I could please

If I could

Be

If I could

Don’t you ever speak my name

I waited

Long enough

Long enough for you

Don’t you ever speak my name

I waited

Long enough

Long enough for you

Don’t you ever speak my name

I waited

Long enough

Long enough for you

Don’t you ever speak my name

I waited

Long enough

Long enough for you
