Ceremony

“Ceremony” is a song originally written by Joy Division and is the  fifth track from the EP Listen

Story

This is the first song I remember learning how to play from beginning to end. I was in a band with a guy named Jason who really wanted to cover it so he brought me into a back room, sat me down on a bed with a tape player and said “You’re not coming out until you learn this”. Up until that point I had never attempted to learn a song so I owe him a bit of thanks for that (and many other things). You can find the lyrics for this song online but from what I have seen none of them are correct, or at least none of them sound like what I hear Bernard singing on the first single. I also tried to add a little Ian Curtis to how I sing a few of the lines, not so much his voice, but the notes he chose. I really cannot express the importance of this song on the music that I make. I will play it any chance I get.

Lyrics

This is why events unnerve me

Define it all a different story

Notice whom for wheels are turning

Turn again and turn towards this time

All she asked was strength to hold me

Then again the same old story

Love will travel oh so quickly

Travels first and leans towards this time

I'll break them all no mercy shown

Heaven knows it's got to be this time

What she heard the things she said

The time she cried

But failed to wait this time

Well I'll break them down no mercy shown

Heaven knows it's got to be this time

Avenues all lined with trees

Picture me and then you start watching

Watching forever

Watching love grow

Forever

Letting me know

Forever

Forever
